A Family Photo Session in a New Jersey Perennial Garden
Somerset County Family Photographer | Somerset County, NJ | Bridgewater, NJ
This family is always a pleasure to photograph, and I was thrilled they wanted to do a family session with me. I had taken holiday card photos for them in the past, and they are such a lovely family. We met up at a favorite location of mine, Cross Estate Gardens in Bernardsville, New Jersey. This park in Somerset County is amazing in the spring, and we timed it perfectly for the perennial garden to be in full bloom with the wisteria flowering!
We explored different parts of the gardens, starting with photos at the stone water tower, heading under the wisteria-topped pergola, into the perennial garden, and finishing on the winding shaded paths. I like to prioritize the posed family photos first when I have the most attention from kids (think the holiday card photo). Then we moved on to individual shots of the kids and the kids with each parent. These are more fun because they’re not as formal and the prompts can be turned into games for the little ones! Parents enjoy them too because they usually get a few extra hugs and kisses from their children.
We finished off with photos of mom and dad individually. This is important to me because the parents are the anchor of the family. They are working hard during the day to day to keep life running smoothly, and oftentimes they don’t take as much time for themselves as they would like.
I don’t think we stopped talking the entire time we were together! The Parkers are good friends of ours, and we had a lot of catching up to do.
